The Artist Photographer - Mark Gillan
|
Mark Gillan GICI ARPS has been a photographer since the age of about 8 years when he borrowed his parents camera for a school trip ... the love of photography commenced immediately upon the first click. The artist within Mark had a huge impact upon his photography ever since.
Developing film and prints within the darkroom was eventually replaced with digital hardware and the incredible software most professional photographers indulge ... Photoshop. As Mark Gillan praises the software declaring it to be "the best darkroom in the world and a dream come true after so many years working with traditional film" combined with the limitless mind of an artist. As a young man, Mark Gillan had a giant retinal tear with detachment followed by numerous medical operations, unfortunately meaning complete darkness and the fear of blindness realised in one eye. Running the risk of the same condition arising in his other eye, he continued with his artwork and photography feeling a massive increase in love for the art. Mark Gillan found the beauty of the world around him could be recorded with even more passion and dedication. A few years later, Mark found himself back on the operating table with a greater fear ... a retinal tear and detachment within the other eye. Feeling the world crashing around him, the thought of never seeing the world again, he soldiered through another operation. Luckily, some sight has been retained ... for the moment. Every day brings the same risk of total darkness. Every day brings love of the shape, brightness, contrast, wonderful exciting and fantastic world recreated through artistic photography. The passion is more than ever. The appreciation of the world around us through Mark Gillan. Mark Gillan wants to help others less fortunate around the world. He tries to raise funds through being a college lecturer, author, artist, photographer and a warm person. It is testament to a man who is not just looking after himself but considers everyone and wants to enjoy life with some eyesight. Mark hopes you enjoy his offerings. |
